Tyler Robert Jacobsen 1977 - 2019 Lubbock, TX
Tyler was a transformative force in the lives of countless individuals fortunate enough to cross his path.
An alumnus of the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, Tyler went on to shape young minds as an educator at Marist College, Parsons School of Design, and Cornish College of Art from 2002 until his passing on June 10, 2019.
Tyler’s artistic vision uniquely merged post-pop-punk aesthetics with retro-futuristic computing themes. His masterful integration of digital technology, early electronic music knowledge, and an unmistakable eye for contemporary culture produced an extraordinary body of work.
His portfolio spans from digital film imaging to cross-medium manipulation, and even pioneering work in automated fact-checking systems for political discourse.
The works presented today showcase Tyler’s role as artistic director for Medical Records, a vinyl reissue label dedicated to preserving lost early synthesizer music. There, he reimagined over 50 album covers, either building upon original artwork or creating entirely new designs through his exceptional typography skills and unparalleled understanding of what is – objectively – cool.
These album covers stand as testament to Tyler’s remarkable talent, artistic merit, and timeless commercial sensibility.
His creative spirit and influence continue to resonate with people around the world.
